I submitted online renewal application on 12/16/22. It’s been more than 12 weeks and I still haven’t received it. Called Dept. of States and waited 5hrs 40min. to get to someone. He couldn’t check status for me, couldn’t schedule appt. for me to apply in-person in the Passport Agency either. Only said to deliver the message. My travel date is 3/26/23, less than 14 days. Very stressful……

As of today, 3-1-2023, I paid for expedited service with promised 3 – 5 weeks processing. Obviously that that did not happen as I am still waiting and the the online status still stuck on “processing”. They cannot be reached by phone. One cannot leave leave a callback number. If you are lucky and get the phone to answer, the wait time is over 3.5 hours! The least thing they can do is give the citizens a reliable status updates. Very, very, very, and I di I say very frustrating!

My congressman will not help and his office simply repeats that the passport centers are too busy.

My experience with the passport renewal process was easy and straightforward. I was stressed because I cut it too close to my international travel date (3/16), but that was my fault for waiting until the last minute. What also made it stressful is that I paid for USPS express shipping and was supposed to receive it by 3/11. However, in true USPS fashion, I did not receive it until 3/13 and never received any updates until it was delivered.

If you are making plans to travel in under 60 days, PAY THE EXPEDITED FEE. We received our 2 new child passports in 29 days after going in person to the US Post Office. We paid the expedited fee. I wasn’t thrilled about spending the extra money but I am so glad I did. There is a huge backlog on passports. Others I know who didn’t pay to expedite are still waiting, nervously, as their Spring Break travel plans quickly approach.
