Submitted online January 9. Status just flipped to “shipped” today, April 5. Thank you to this site for keeping me aware of how much we are all suffering this miserable online process. My 93-year-old father went into the hospital overseas with Covid last month and I thought I might miss his funeral if he died. He’s better and with passport in hand I can now plan a visit. Three months to process a document which was complete online and needs five minutes of review is ridiculous, as is prioritizing paper passports when online is the future. /end rant/

I was actually renewing my two kids passports. I thought I had more than enough time so didn’t expedite them (had over 9 weeks before our trip). I called the New Hampshire location as the code started with 69 as I could never get through on the general number when we hit week 7 and status still showed processing. I was told once I reached 14-days till my travel date, I could expedite them. I called on day 13 till travel date and did expedite them and also got the next day air. They arrived two days before our trip. I had a backup plan but it was very stressful. My suggestion is if you’re traveling less than 3 months from when you applied/renewed your passport, spend the extra money and expedite and also get the next day air. In all, it took 9 weeks and 1 day to get my kids passports and that’s with next day air and after the fact expediated.
