Both my wife and I sent our passport in the same mailing with a single check for payment. The day I sent the passports into the agency, the wait time was “6-8 weeks”, however, the next day, the wait time on the website increased to “10-13 weeks”. Once received, my wife’s passport displayed as “In Progress”, while my passport status displayed as “Not Available”, this was the case for most of the process. We are closing on a property and I started to get worried. I contacted my congress person and they made an inquiry on the status of my passport. The day the inquiry was made, my passport began to display as “In Progress”. The day after the inquiry was made both passports displayed as being “shipped” with a tracking number, the next day the passports arrived.

I mailed all of my paperwork to the Philadelphia location in early May. I didn’t expedite it due to the fact that I wasn’t traveling anytime soon but I needed it to schedule a flight overseas for early next year. I continued to check the website on any updates but all I was getting was that my application was not available. My application was not available until 7/28 when it finally was approved and my check cleared from my bank. The website stated that I would receive my passport by 8/5 but it arrived by 8/3. My locator was 69 and I didn’t have to reach out to my congressman nor senator. I was glad that I found this Facebook page to get additional information just in case my application wasn’t showing any progress.

Even though it still shows 10-13 weeks for renewal (plus 1-2 weeks for receiving and mailing on both ends), we were completely surprised to receive both of our passports back so quickly. We mailed them USPS Priority Mail, they were accepted 6 days later, and from acceptance to having them in hand took 6 weeks, 4 days. Status never changed the entire time from showing In Process until 2 days before we received them when it switched to Shipped, and it showed USPS Priority Mail tracking numbers (write them down, they disappeared the next day from the Passport system and status switched to Approved). And like others have posted, we did not get any email updates during the process.

Anyway, maybe the crunch is finally over.

The Post Office lost my valid passport and original birth cert (don’t ask) so this was a replacement passport. When you lose your passport, you have to apply as if it is your first and I was not able to submit an official birth cert since the PO lost my only one. I was able to send them an expired passport which must have done the trick. I was so relieved to get it in the mail today. Don’t trust certified mail. Only use Priority Mail, FedEx or UPS!
