Noted DOT as 9/3, was about to contact congressman 8/18 (two weeks before travel date), but status changed to approved the day before! Biggest relief. Thank you to everybody helping get the backup back on track!

A note: Upon returning home from our passport appointment, we realized the USPS person had forgotten to collect the copy of the birth certificate to establish that we are the parents and therefore can issue a passport for a minor. We called them, and they said this was indeed required, and we needed to go back and submit the copy of the document to include in the application. So, please don’t trust that USPS folks will be on top of things. You need to know what’s required and make sure it’s all included with your application. Had we not realized it on time, it could have caused some delays.
Also, like others here, we signed up for email updates, but never got a single update.
