Applied in person 11/28. Wait time was 6-9 weeks. Travel was 9+ weeks away at that time, so we didn’t expedite. Travel date was 2/5. They cashed our checks PROMPTLY (but of course!) and then nothing. No updates for about 4 weeks. Status changed to “in process.” And then nothing.
We waited until our travel date was 2 weeks away as stated on the website. Reps were entirely unhelpful. We were told we could MAYBE get an appointment at an agency if they have room for us. It would have cost us hundreds $ more not to mention the full day of travel it would have taken… all to be told they didn’t actually have any appointments.
Family members we were traveling with applied weeks after us and received all of their passports within 3-4 weeks.
Our trip came and we were forced to spend $125 for all new birth certificates, as we were required to submit our originals with our applications. Still don’t have originals back.
We got home from vacation to find passports in our mailbox. The Department of State conveniently updated the estimated wait time to 8-11 weeks right as we hit 9 weeks. We still don’t have our original birth certificates back… will we ever?
This was a god-awful horrendous experience. What do you expect from the government? All I can say is that my next trip abroad will be out of this ridiculous country.

My wife and I submitted renewals on same date 12/07/22. I received mine om 1/27/23. however my wifes has been in process mode since January 4, 2022 and no further progress. I check the status daily and do not know where they still processeing my wife. I am told that there are 26 locations.
