I used Fedex to expedite the process but became worried when I learned that it could still take 5-7 weeks to receive my passport. I needed it for travel in 6 weeks. I ended up calling the passport agency to schedule an in person appointment 14 days before travel, but it took several days to talk to a live person. Eventually I got an appointment but ended up not needing to go to it.
