This is for my wife’s passport.
We have international travel planed for 5/11. My wife could not find her passport (probably lost at home and thrown away by mistake??) so the following sequence ensued:

2/2 – Application put in at a local county government office
2/6 – Arrived at CO passport agency (locator 17)
* We only learned in arrived on this date much later
4/10 – Status STILL says “not available” when checking online. Mild panic sets in knowing that passport timelines are 10-13 weeks for standard processing, even though we submitted when the timelines were not as bad (7-9 weeks, I think). Request to expedite processing and shipping placed via e-mail. Also, on this date I realized my wife never marked her old passport as lost so we did that online on this date.
4/11 – Contacted our congressman’s office for help (rep Norcross in NJ)
4/12 – Congressman’s office puts in an inquiry. At this point we did not know the location of the passport application or that the passport had been received anywhere at all. At this point we thought the application may have been lost in the mail.
4/14 Congressman’s office suggest that an appointment could be schedule at our local office (Philly) or NY once within 14 days of travel. We expressed that we would travel anywhere in the continental U.S. to get the passport done if it comes down to it.
4/21 – Passport status shows up as “In Process”. This is when we learned it was in Colorado and the date it was received there (2/6). At this point our congressman’s office put in another inquiry with the Colorado agency
4/25 – Now moves to “Approved”
4/27 – Now moves to “Shipped
4/28 – Received via USPS priority mail along with supporting documents

LESSON LEARNED: Call/e-mail your congressman’s office! They are very helpful and have influence to get things moving. We worked with a great guy in the congressional office named Jeff. He was excellent and very supportive.

02/24/2023 – Appointment at local post office to get picture taken. Submitted the application for both Passport Renewal and Passport Card that day using Priority Mail with tracking.
02/28/2023 – Application received at Passport Center
03/01/2023 – Application in Process
03/27/2023 – Got anxious when I saw passport processing times had increased again after I had applied. Called the Passport Center and requested to upgrade to Expedited Service and Expedited Shipping just in case. (I was told I would know if Expedite was accepted if/when my credit card is charged. Credit Card was never charged and never changed to expedited on Passport Status lookup page.)
04/24/2023 – Application approved. Estimated delivery date on USPS tracking number provided was 04/27/2023
04/26/2023 – USPS tracking delivery date updated to 04/28/2023.
04/28/2023 – New Passport and Passport Card both arrived in the mail all together along with my old passport.

This was a renewal for a 17 year old. Processing was 30 days from application to receipt of passport. We had an interview at the local post office passport processing location instead of just sending the mailed passport ourselves. We also had the application sent with express delivery to the application office in addition to expedited passport. The overnight delivery was clearly marked EXPEDITED. The form completed by the USPS officer was also marked as Expedited. We were able to obtain a walk in appointment at the local USPS post office
