I mailed my passport renewal application (routine and not expedited) on 3/20/23 at a local post office using priority mail service. It was shown online as received on 3/27/23. I received my new passport in 5/17/23.

Very easy process… Took our completed paperwork for a family of 5 to a local library on 4/6/23. Kids had new apps, our adult passports were expired and past renewal timeline also. Requested expedited service and delivery since we have a travel date in mid-June. We were in and out of the library in less than an hour. Our checks were cashed and our status showed as “in process” on 4/12/23. Got an email update that passports were approved and being printed on 5/16/23. We received all 5 passports on 5/17/23.

This was an expedited request for our children’s passport renewals for travel at the end of May.

Called for in-person appointment: March 27

When we booked our flights, we didn’t realize that getting an expediated passport would take more than 5 weeks. We also didn’t expect to have to wait so long to find an in-person appointment. We were lucky to get the April 4th appointment. The first time we called the earliest available appointment was April 21st.
Given all the delays, we contacted our Congresswoman’s office at the end of April. They has us fill out some forms but we didn’t hear for a while.
When we were within 2 weeks of our travel date, we called the Passport office and they said they would be a rush order on their applications. The next day our Congresswoman’s office called and said their applications had been approved and we would have them before our trip. The website updated at the end of the day and said they would be at our house on May 19th. They arrived 2 days early.
Overall it was very stressful and I’ll never book a trip before checking that our passports are valid again! Big thanks to our Congresswoman’s office for their help.

5/16/2023 – senator office advises will contact state department
5/17/2023 – status changed to approved and later that day shipped with tracking for delivery 5/18/2023

adult renewal – i called to try to get an appointment in person multiple times but no appointments available. i think what helped here was the senator office. The people at the passport help line can basically do nothing except change to expedite if you didn’t expedite originally. They can’t really see anything else as far as what’s going on with your application.
