My application finally got approved out of locator 69. I really think emailing my senator did it. I sent an email Sunday, got a generic response Monday, assigned a case worker Tuesday & just now at 1:40AM Wednesday it got marked approved. I literally checked it 2 hours ago and it was still in processing.

My application has been in processing since 5/3 with expedited service. Travel date of 6/25. I’ve been in a frenzy like everyone else because I greatly under estimated the time frame to renew my passport. For all those who need help, my recommendation is to call the passport hotline at 8AM on the dot to try to get through to someone. Don’t worry, it’s not gonna help much but don’t get frustrated. The idea is to let someone know you’re traveling soon (within 14 days) so they “mark it urgent”. Then call your locator directly. This is where your passport is. Again, they too will not be helpful BUT slightly more helpful than the 800 number, they’re probably going to give you the same info unless you’re traveling in 7-5 days. But I did have an agent tell me she’ll notate my account and for me to call back within 5 days of travel. From there email your senator or congressman’s office. Literally just google search who your official is and go to their website. They’ll all have a link that says something along the lines of “get help with government agencies”. Click the link, fill out the forms, and send them to the given email address or fax number. If you want to add a little extra razzle dazzle in there, call them the next day or day after to confirm they got it or speak with someone over the phone directly. That should help most people. & if all else fails. Book a cheap Spirit flight to Dallas, as I’ve heard they are doing walk ins for those traveling within 24-72 hours. That was going to be my last option.

My son and I both filled out paper passport applications, had our photos taken at the US Post Office, and mailed off our applications there in late April, I believe on Friday April 21. We paid for expedited service and overnight or priority mailing for the return of the passports once processed. The National Passport Center showed they were received on April 25th and we had them by the first couple of days in June. The State Department Website was generally up to date and we had them before the estimated processing time. Far better service than a lot of private companies offer.

3/18/23 – Apply for 2 kid’s passports in person (second passport for each kid, but no renewal for children)

18 weeks before travel date, chose routine service, thought we were in the 8-11 week window

3/24/23 – Applications received by New Orleans passport agency,

Routine service has now changed to 10-13 weeks

In early June start to get nervous, do some digging, and start reading horror stories online and watching news stories

6/6/23 – Become nervous enough to call National number to request expedited service and shipping. Was given an email to request these services with no guarentee

6/7/23 – Call New Orleans office to inquire about passports, they couldn’t tell me anything more than the generic “in process” status I can see for myself

Start getting prepared to contact Congressman if we get within a month of travel day

6/10/23 – Check passport status early (Saturday) morning, both kid’s statuses updated to “approved” with promise to arrive on or near 6/18/23

Status briefly changed to “shipped” with USPS tracking number, but later changed back to “approved”

6/15/23 – Both passports arrive in USPS priority mail envelope. Thankfully, not wet from flooding rains we had experienced all week. All info on passports correct (my last worry).

Request for expedited processing and shipping never granted nor was card charged.

Never received an email of any kind throughout the process, even though I signed up.

Application status is still “approved” on official status website.

Should have had faith they would arrive within the window, but went down too many rabbit holes online. Total time from application to receiving – 13 weeks. Total time processing – 11 weeks.

Unbelievable relief to have in hand.
