In person appointments for USPS passport office are few and far between. Have a plan to get an appointment ahead of time as they are booked months out. The paper application is easy enough to get through. Sorting through required documentation is a chore. Waiting times for my group’s passports were a bit longer than what is posted here. My theory is that our travel dates are further out so processing was pushed back as waiting times were 70+ days.

The wait time changed after I applied so I didn’t send it expedited which I extremely regret. I’m still waiting on my son’s passport since he needed an in person appointment which took a month to get. That agent also advised there was no need to expedite. Travel is in 2 1/2 weeks. Guess I’ll have to call them in 4 days and possibly take a trip to the passport center.

I was looking to go to Canada this summer and a friend of mine who just got back from a trip told me he applied for his renewal 3 months ahead of that trip and he ended up having to get his rep involved. They managed to get it done at the 11th hour and overnighted it to him so it was in his hands the day he was getting on his flight. After hearing his story I put in my app immediately. When I put my app in I listed my planned travel dates at the end of July, which was my plan from the start but I had flexibility on those dates so I applied regular service and left expedited for someone that needed it more then me.

4/17: Mailed application
4/24: Status changed to in process, locator number started with 19.
*Week 13 from here would be the week before I planned to go on my trip*
6/9: Went from in process directly to shipped, got tracking number.
6/12: Arrived via Priority Mail (which I didn’t purchase, but I’ll take it) from Hot Springs NP, Arkansas.
Didn’t get any e-mail notifications.
Total time including mailing: Exactly 7 weeks.
(Much better then 10-13!)

Still waiting date of travel is 7/5/23.
We were told 8-10 weeks. It has been 12 weeks. Family members that applied for new passports after us have already received theirs.
